Supreme Court Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul called for setting up a probe panel to investigate human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir since the 1980s. In an epilogue to the verdict upholding Article 370's repeal, Justice Kaul said J&K people paid a heavy price due to army entry, admitting his Kashmiri Pandit roots evoked sentimentality. He recommended an impartial Truth and Reconciliation Committee be constituted to probe rights abuses by state and non-state actors since the '80s and suggest reconciliation steps. Justice Kaul said wounds need healing in J&K after decades of trauma, seeking a restorative justice approach over recrimination through a fact-finding body on past excesses.

Prime Minister Modi termed the Supreme Court's unanimous verdict upholding the Centre's move to repeal Article 370 in J&K as "historic" and a "resounding declaration of hope, progress and unity". In a social media post, he stated the judgement constitutionally validates the Parliament's August 2019 decision and fortifies Indian unity. The landmark ruling is a big victory for Modi and the BJP ahead of 2024 polls after delivering on a key ideological plank of revoking J&K's special status under Article 370 months after their thumping 2019 re-election. Modi said the court has, in its profound wisdom, reinforced the essence of oneness that Indians cherish above all by backing the Centre's momentous move on J&K's constitutional status.

The Supreme Court upheld the Centre's 2019 move to abrogate Article 370 ending special status for Jammu and Kashmir. The landmark verdict by a 5-judge bench boosts the BJP ahead of 2024 polls after meeting a key ideological pledge. The court ruled Article 370 was temporary, the President had powers to revoke it, and J&K did not retain sovereignty on joining India. It directed the EC to conduct J&K assembly elections by Sept 30, 2024. However, the court refused to rule on the validity of the 2018 imposition of President's rule in J&K. The judgement sides with the Centre on the reorganization and lockdown since Aug 2019 after nullifying J&K's autonomy under Article 370.

The Supreme Court upheld the Centre's 2019 decision to revoke Article 370 ending Jammu and Kashmir's special constitutional status. A 5-judge bench ruled that J&K did not retain sovereignty when joining the Indian union, dismissing claims of special autonomy. The court said Article 370 was intended as a temporary provision and its scrapping culminated the gradual constitutional integration process over 70 years. The judgement refused to rule on the validity of the 2018 Presidential rule imposition in J&K as it was not specifically challenged. The landmark verdict sides with the Centre on the far-reaching move to revoke special privileges and reorganize the former state.

The National Conference claimed senior leader Omar Abdullah has been put under house arrest ahead of the Supreme Court's verdict on Article 370. NC spokesperson Sarah Hayat Shah shared pictures of Abdullah's locked residence gate on social media. This comes after the PDP said its chief Mehbooba Mufti was also put under house arrest. However, J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha dismissed the claims as "baseless". Meanwhile, police did not allow journalists to gather near the Gupkar residence of NC president Farooq Abdullah and vice-president Omar Abdullah. A posse of police personnel was deployed at the Gupkar Road entry to prevent access to the NC leaders' home.
