Upgrade for Royal Navy's Sea Viper Missile System to Bolster UK Defence

The Sea Viper Air Defence system, which recently thwarted drone threats in the Red Sea, will undergo a £405 million upgrade, making it the Royal Navy's most advanced naval air defence system. The enhancements include new warheads and software, enabling it to counter ballistic missile threats, crucial for safeguarding the UK's Carrier Strike group. Three contracts awarded to MBDA UK will support 350 jobs and boost the economy. Defence Secretary Grant Shapps highlights the adaptability of Sea Viper amid growing Middle East tensions. The enhancements aim to achieve full operational capability for Type 45 destroyers by Autumn 2032.
