Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan and his deputy Shah Mehmood Qureshi have been handed down 10-year jail terms in a case involving the leaking of state secrets. The verdict, delivered by a special court in Rawalpindi, stems from the so-called cypher case, which revolves around a diplomatic cable Khan alleges implicates a conspiracy in his removal from power in 2022. Khan, who has been in jail since last August on various charges, including this case, denies the allegations. The sentencing of Pakistan's main opposition leader comes just ahead of the February 8 general elections.
